 | TOM WHITE - SOLO SHOW 25th November 2011 - 17th December 2011 Open Monday - Saturday, 9:30 - 17:00 In his latest paintings of contemporary Bristol, Tom White continues to avoid the famous buildings and landmarks in favour of a less obvious cityscape. The places he paints tend to be inhabited by city dwellers rather than visitors. The paintings are acutely observed, offering a unique and objective snapshot of one of the UK's most characterful inner city areas. The evanescent quality of the facades, including graffiti is carefully transferred to canvas, often using early morning light to add magic to the scene. Ongoing investment and development of the inner city is inevitable, often changing the scenery we take for granted. White attempts to identify, capture and preserve such areas, particularly those that will be missed the most.
This work will ultimately remind us of lost surroundings, but in the meantime, help to promote reflection and appreciation of the beauty in our midst. |
