Artist Statement:
Feona Ness' fascination and love of powerful skies with rich landscapes dates from her childhood in Northumberland. After gaining a BA Hons in Textile Design, she initially pursued a design career. This experience taught her the importance of colour and space in a commercial world.
In the 80's she lived in Canada soaking up the vast landscapes and pure air. On returning to the UK she has enjoyed teaching art in secondary education and subsequently has painted full time.
Working directly from the environment, inspired by light, weather patterns, moods and colours along the South West Coast and Bristol Downs, her oil paintings are semi abstract but firmly rooted in the tradition of landscape painting.
This new body of work seeks to explore the phenomenon of visual indeterminacy, where images are sensorially vivid yet with only vaguely recognisable content, through the use of powerful colour and texture.
