Artist Statement My work can be described as contemporary abstract landscape. My primary aim is to create an atmosphere and feel rather than what you see around you. I like to immerse the viewer in my paintings, whilst allowing them to imagine their own places and create an emotional response in what they see. I work primarily with oils on canvas. I use various mark making methods including scratching the canvas and sometimes applying the paint with my hands - a technique that leaves a strong evidence of human trace in the work. I like the viewer to see the movement captured within the painting. I use a variety of techniques to create this, varying from vigorous brush strokes to thin glazes. |
